We recently had the honor to volunteer at the UpSpring Summer 360 camp, and it was a blast! We got to spend a couple hours with the kids at Ethel M. Taylor Academy, serving Gold Star 3-ways for lunch. While the coneys were a huge hit, our favorite part of the experience was hanging out, laughing, and getting to know some of the kids!
UpSpring is a local organization who currently helps about 7,000 children experiencing homelessness in the Greater Cincinnati area. Whether they are experiencing a transition period in shelters, living on friends’ or relatives’ couches night to night, or with no homes at all, UpSpring’s mission is “to empower children experiencing homelessness by providing opportunities for education and enrichment.” They achieve this by giving participants some normalcy and the opportunity to just let kids be kids.
UpSpring 360 plans all types of fun programs to help them thrive and grow in their communities. These include activities like a day at King’s Island, trips to the riverboats on the Ohio River, or even just getting to be with kids their age during the summer. This day to day planning during the off-school summer months keeps the kids active, learning, provides great memories and offers ways to relate to their classmates when return to school in the fall.
Thank you UpSpring, for letting us come down and spend the afternoon with such amazing kids. We look forward to helping out with future events!
