Emily first joined our team to manage social media marketing and help build our search engine optimization process. Now, as Chief Marketing Officer, she oversees all of our digital marketing and search engine optimization services. Through her time and work at eMedia, she has found a true passion for digital strategy, and helping clients tell their story through digital brand experiences. Luckily for us, Emily brings more than just marketing expertise to the table. She also brings a love for cooking and food, literally to the table, so our office is often stocked with homemade treats. You’ll sometimes find her coralling the team out to do fun things together in the city, or challenging coworkers to a casual afternoon dance-off. Yep, she’s a little weird and a whole lot of fun, which is why we love her!
What is your favorite part of your job?
Besides the ridiculously awesome people I work with every day, I truly enjoy the pursuit of creative strategy. I really admire smart design, simple UX, valuable content and creative digital marketing. So I love that my role has a hand in each of these areas of focus.
SEO and digital marketing are somewhat newer fields when it comes to marketing. How did you get into this field?
I definitely didn’t take the typical path into this role. But then again, I’m not sure there is a typical path for this role. When I was in grad school for sports marketing, I had two professors specifically, who had a hand in shaping my future in marketing. It was through their classwork that I really realized my love for omni-channel marketing. Scary to say that back then, which was just a few years ago, digital marketing was considered “new media”. From there, I spent the next couple years in a marketing role while immersing myself into social media and learning SEO.
We hear you’re a fan of haikus… Can you summarize working at eMedia Design Co. in a haiku?
Dream + Create + Pursue // Working with the City’s best // Pixel to purchase
(alternate: lunch, lunch, lunch, sandwich // Lunching on all the sandies // Let’s get all the food)
What are some of your favorite industry resources to stay on top of best practices and trends?
I like Mashable for all things social media and industry humor, Search Engine Land, Matt Cutts’ Blog for SEO updates. The creative/entrepreneurial spirit in me is a big fan of Fast Company. I’m basically their ideal target reader, I read, share and save their content constantly.
